Sea Girt

Founded in 1875 by a group of Philadelphia land developers and incorporated in 1917, Sea Girt has a population of approximately 2,148 and covers 1.05 square miles. Although at first it was occupied mainly by vacationers, the majority of its current residents are predominantly year-round. Sea Girt notably features one of the oldest lighthouses in the nation. The L-shaped brick building was the last shore lighthouse with a keeper’s residence that was built on the east coast. It was erected to serve as a marker to the inlet leading to Wreck Pond; it is now used for various community activities and tours.

The vibe in Sea Girt is one of family-oriented charm. Many of the families who live here have been residents for generations. The pristine white beaches are very child-friendly, and one can often find families riding bikes on summer evenings down the large, tree-lined streets. Stop in to Joe Leone’s delicious Italian specialty store for some homemade bread, or treat the family to Rod’s Steakhouse for fun, drink, and great eats!
