Belmar

Originally named “Ocean Beach”, Belmar was founded in 1872. In 1889, the town was re-named Belmar, which is French for “Beautiful Sea”. Today Belmar is one of the most active towns on the Jersey Shore, attracting both families and singles alike. Its broad, mile-long boardwalk is a favorite for jogging, strolling, biking, people-watching, and enjoying a summer full of events. Belmar’s state-of-the-art marina is THE place to find charter and party boats, deep-sea fishing expeditions, kayaking and eco trips, pier fishing, and more.

The town also boasts a variety of restaurants, from the spicy Ragin’ Cajun to the elegant contemporary cuisine found at Matisse, there is something sure to satisfy anyone’s palate. Activities and events abound on Belmar’s expansive white-sand beach. The New Jersey Sandcastle Contest is hosted here in early July; the Professional Volleyball Tournament on July 8th through the 10th; and the Belmar Pro in September welcomes surfing pros and amateurs alike.
