As promised, I left lots of good stuff out of yesterday’s email. I usually write this blast early in the morning or late at night (whenever I can fit it in) and am often not at my best. I’ve been writing seven grants over the past three weeks, so I’m maxed! Enough of the excuses . . . . . what I forgot:
Funktion 11 at Chico’s House of Jazz, tonight – Ladies Night 8 pm
Brett Colby and Bill Whitefield will be performing at the Mayor’s Chill-Out Series season finale at the AP Train Station on Friday from 5 to 8 pm. Special guest, Brett’s Dad will be playing the drums. In case of rain, the series will take place in the train station lobby. Very cool!
A new shop is opening in the Shoppes At The Arcade located at 658 Cookman Ave. called Greetings from Geralyn. Artists Jenny Hied and Aaron Nieradka will be at the store for a meet and greet on First Saturday, Sept. 4th from 6 pm. Check it out!
Russo Music, AP’s latest musical addition to the downtown located in the former site of the Silverball Museum (639 Cookman – lower level of HoldFast) will be celebrating their grand opening on Saturday. Last week, Russo arranged to have the Gibson Guitar traveling show come to the city. I played a bit and told them about our big musical heritage celebration and they are definitely in! Russo Music also donated a $2,000 Gibson guitar to the Asbury Rock Stars Charity to be raffled off on Sunday at the Paramount Sessions. Huge!
And speaking of the Paramount Sessions, yesterday’s email said it was happening on Saturday – not so, they will be rockin on Sunday starting at 7 pm. Come down and enjoy some great music and take a break and check out our beach fireworks courtesy of Madison Marquette and then catch some more music at all our great restaurants and clubs. Only in Asbury Park!
Hundreds of “out of the office” emails greeted me this morning, so I know many of you have already started your weekend. I have two more grants that I need to finish by Friday’s deadline and then I will be joining you!
No better place to spend your Labor Day Weekend than the Jersey Shore’s coolest city: Asbury Park – Where Music Lives.
Wishes for a wonderful and safe weekend,
Tom Gilmour
