Greetings from Asbury Park:
It would be hard to surpass the activity level of last weekend but we are going to give it our best Asbury try. The great beach weather continues to establish record attendance to the Jersey shore’s best beach. Kudos to all our beach staff and DPW employees who work so hard to maintain one of the city’s beautiful assets. Only in Asbury Park!
Mark your calendars! Saturday, August 14th brings us the 7th Annual Asbury Park 5K. The Jersey Shore Running Club and the Shore Athletic Club hosts one of the Jersey Shore’s best family and competitive fun runs. It is part of the Jersey Shore Golden GrandPrix events. So, why not come and show us how good you really are? As you may remember, last year at the half-way turn at the Wonder Bar, I was right there with the leaders and then cramped up and had to drop out. Even though I recently had some surgery, I will do my best to participate again this year. The unique finish on the boardwalk is worth participation. You can register on-line or the day of the event at 7am. Race starts promptly at 8:30 am. The 5K race and walk will be followed by a kids’ race and proceeds will benefit the Asbury Park UEZ Program and the Boys and Girls Club of Monmouth County. Go to www.jsrc.org/clubraces/asburypark5k for additional info. On you marks!
The Visionary Tattoo Arts Festival is coming to Asbury Park this weekend. This is one of those events you don’t want to miss. The festival takes place July 30th and 31st in Convention Hall. Go to www.visionarytattoofest.com for details,
The Gay Pride Business Network (GPBN) will be hosting an informal gathering on Sunday, August 1st from 10 to 3 pm on the Fifth Avenue beach to the right of the lifeguard stand.

Last night, Patti and I attended the Grand Opening of the Dauphin Grille at the Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel. In addition to the restaurant, Marilyn will be handling all the catering and room service for the hotel. This is Marilyn Schlossbach’s latest dining adventure in Asbury Park. It was very cool because the crowd was full of people outside of Asbury Park who all really get it. I am proud to say my barber, Bobby LeFrank, who is the only person who has ever cut my hair was there with his
whole family. It warms me to watch this city so alive and vibrant. Only in Asbury Park! HUGE!
Thank you for all your kind thoughts and prayers, they really help. I am on the mend and healing well but still taking it very easy. For those of you who know me well, I did sneak into the office for a couple of hours this week.
This is going to be another record weekend. Make yourself part of the record! Wishes for a wonderful and safe time,
Tom Gilmour
