Greetings from Asbury Park – Tom Gilmour Director of Commerce + Good Times 3/18/10

Weekly Updates
Greeting from Asbury Park:
Mother Nature lobbed us one heck of a Nor’easter last weekend.  Besides all the rain and wind, much sand found its way to the boardwalk or headed out into the Atlantic.  Knowing our terrific Department of Public Works, they are already working to get the beach back in shape.  Patti and I lost power from Saturday afternoon to Monday morning.  Good news is this weekend is going to be full of sunshine, and of course, “good times.”  Only in Asbury Park!

Hey, one more week until the Garden State Film Festival!  It’s no secret that this is one of my favorite weekends in Asbury Park!  Diane Raver, Executive Director and founder of the Festival, emailed me yesterday and shared that one event is already sold out and four others will probably sell out in the next couple of days.  So, get your tickets now!  Go to the GSFF’s web site, www.gsff.org , and click on Listings AT A Glance to check out the whole schedule.  Diane also gave me two weekend passes to raffle off so . the first person to email me back with the correct answer to the following question will receive two free weekend passes.  The question:    In the film Casablanca, what is the name of Rick’s place?  Just reply to this email with your answer and it will get to me.  Good luck!  I will give you additional details about the film festival next week.  Make sure you’re in the city for this one and please turn off your cell phones!

The Arts Coalition of Asbury Park (ArtsCAP) is soliciting logo designs for its upcoming City Arts/Asbury Park Festival.  The winner will receive a $100 cash prize.  The City Arts/Asbury Park Festival will be a full weekend celebration of the arts in AP set for Sept. 24 & 25, 2010.  Contest details and design specs are posted on www.artscap.org.  Save the date!

We still need your vote!  Please vote for Asbury Park in the NJ’s survey for the Top Ten Beaches for 2010 in the state.  Go to www.njtoptenbeaches.org  and vote in all four categories and vote often.  Do it!

Posh Den will be celebrating their new location, a new season, and unique new merchandise with a grand re-opening this Friday, March 19th from 6 to 9 PM.  Posh Den moved to make room for the Silverball (Pinball Museum), but is still located in the 3rd Ave. Pavilion on the boardwalk.   Refreshments will be served.  Stop by and enjoy a 20% discount on everything in the store.  Only in Asbury Park!

Emmy Award winning actress and comedian, Judy Gold will be appearing at Brickwall Tavern & Dining Room, followed by an encore performance at The Annex on Friday, March 19th starting at 8 PM.  Tickets are limited and are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.
