Greetings from Asbury Park – Tom Gilmour Director of Commerce + Good Times 12/3/09

Weekly Updates
Greetings from Asbury Park:
Fa La La La De Da!

So what season is it?  Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  Patti and I certainly did.  We spent the day with Patti’s parents Gig and Bob, her brother Bob and his girlfriend Annie and my son Tom.  Tom shared with us an article that appeared in the November issue of Popular Photography featuring his work and a book he has published full of his great photographs.  Pretty cool and needless to say I’m quite proud!  We actually had some conversation about creating a photography event in Asbury Park (Stay tuned!).  We attended the tree lighting in the Grand Arcade and also picked up a number of the new AP Fire Department’s 2010 Calendar for gifts.  Only in Asbury Park!

City Tree Lighting on Friday, Dec. 4th at Firemen’s Park on Main St. between Fifth and Sunset Avenues.

So, it’s the first weekend in December, so it must be my favorite First Saturday: A Flurry of Festivities to get you into the holiday spirit sponsored by The Passion Group.  Santa & Frosty will arrive via fire truck at 7 PM leading up to the tree lighting at 8 PM.  Music will be provided by the Asbury Park High School Marching Band & Kevin Quinn.  Shops and restaurants open late and FREE parking in the Bangs Avenue Garage provided by TAKA Restaurant.  ‘Tis the Reason to Visit Asbury Park!

So let’s talk shopping . . . .  during the holidays, if you are looking for that unique gift for that special someone, take it from me,  you will find it in Asbury Park.  There are so many great shops full of very cool, unique merchandise and clothing.  The downtown merchants have created a concierge service located at America’s Pie that frees you up to enjoy all the downtown activities.  Go to www.paranormalbooksnj.com or call 732.455.3188 for a list of participating businesses and info.  Check out Richard Virgilio’s The B Plot column in this week’s Coaster:  AP holiday gift guide to 20 items under $20.  Have you Bought In?  Sign up at www.boughtinap.com for weekly holiday specials.  Only in Asbury Park!
